Quick answer

Clean your PEAX Glassing Pad by hand with mild soap and cool water, air dry it away from direct heat, and store it loosely rolled or flat in a dry place.

Why proper care matters for your glassing pad

A glassing pad is one of those pieces of gear that gets used hard but rarely gets cleaned. Dirt, sweat, and moisture from wet ground can break down the insulation and outer fabric over time, reducing the cushion and comfort you rely on during long sits. Regular care keeps the pad light, warm, and supportive for years.

The PEAX Glassing Pad is built for demanding mountain hunts, so it's tough, but it still needs the right treatment. Avoid machine washing, bleach, and fabric softeners, which can damage the fill and waterproof coating.

How to clean and care for your glassing pad

  1. 1. Shake out loose debris: Take the pad outside and give it a firm shake to remove dirt, leaves, and grit. Use a soft brush or your hand to dislodge anything stuck in the fabric. This prevents abrasion during washing. Skipping this step can grind dirt into the fabric and reduce the pad's lifespan.
  2. 2. Spot clean with mild soap and cool water: Mix a small amount of mild, non-detergent soap (like Nikwax Tech Wash or a gentle wool wash) with cool water. Dampen a soft cloth or sponge, gently scrub any stained or soiled areas, and avoid soaking the pad through. Never use hot water, bleach, or fabric softener—they can damage the insulation and outer fabric.
  3. 3. Rinse and remove excess moisture: Use a clean cloth dampened with cool water to wipe off the soap. Then press the pad between two dry towels to absorb moisture. Do not wring or twist the pad, as that can clump the insulation. Wringing can create uneven spots that reduce comfort when you're glassing.
  4. 4. Air dry completely away from heat: Lay the pad flat or hang it over a drying rack in a well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Do not use a dryer, radiator, or space heater. Drying can take 12–24 hours; flip it once to speed things up. Heat can melt synthetic insulation or shrink the fabric, ruining the pad's performance.
  5. 5. Store flat or loosely rolled in a dry place: Once fully dry, store the pad flat in a gear bin or loosely rolled (not compressed) in a breathable sack. Avoid tight compression for long periods, as it can reduce loft and cushioning over time. Storing it compressed in a stuff sack all off-season can permanently flatten the insulation.
